How to Develop a Winning Team at the Office

Have you ever seen the video called “FISH”? It was filmed on location at Pike’s Fish Market in Seattle, Washington. While attending a NACBA conference there i had the opportunity to visit the market with my wife and some friends. If you have been there you know how crazy that place is and how much fun they have WORKING! It really is incredible that someone made a training film on team building at a fish market. What is their secret? How did they do that? Why do all their employees love to work there and when they leave at night they can’t wait to get back the next day? Their fishmongers! Why do they have so much fun? Part of their secret is team work!

It is essential that you build a team wherever you work and that will create the start of a great workplace. I spent a lot of time over the past several years researching team building ideas. In 2005 I began to implement some team building exercises on my church staff. We started having fun and building relationships in the office and soon i could see a big difference in attitudes and even work performance. I created nick names for some of the support staff and began the process of building the team! I have now used team building in two church settings with very good results.

Wherever you work, in secular or church settings, look around and see if you are a team. If not, develop one! I have attached an article i wrote a few years ago that was published in the NACBA Ledger magazine and i hope it with spark your interest in Team Building. Enjoy and let me know how it works for you!
