Have you ever run into a person in the office that just runs over people and always takes charge? You just can’t understand why they are that way and you avoid them in the office hallway or in the break room. Most the time they can’t help it! That’s just their personality!
LION, OTTER, BEAVER, GOLDEN RETRIEVER
There are different personalities and they can all work together once you understand each one and learn the strengths and weaknesses of each temperament. This can be really fun if you make it that way and will help your staff grow together at the same time. Gary Smalley developed the personality test using four animals; the lion, otter, beaver, and golden retriever. It’s very easy to implement and has lots of information about each personality.
TAKE THE TEST
I started out with just our support staff, all ladies, and we had a really fun time with it. After the test and seeing what animal you’re most like can be an eye opener for some. On the other hand there will be some you know already by the way they act. You can be several animals but there is usually one dominate trait. We emailed the whole staff who was what animal and the ministers all laughed and had fun with it. Then they had to take it and i did the same thing with them. All the ladies got to see which personality the ministers were, and they laughed!
STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES
Each personality has strengths and weaknesses that really helps you understand where each one is coming from. Take time to study those. This is where it becomes a help to your staff. Once you learn what a beaver is like you begin to understand that person better. The next time there is conflict, you will be more understanding, knowing that is just how they are, and you accept it and move on!
HAVE FUN WITH IT
Most of all just laugh and enjoy finding out each others personality traits using the animal. They will talk about this for weeks and laugh and joke around the office but it really does help your staff get along and understand each other better.
