It is simply amazing to me that today out in the retail world, there is absolutely no customer service! As you may have read on my Facebook page today, i went shopping all day with my wife. What we talked about over and over is the lack of good old customer service. In one store i walked up to the check out counter, she scanned all the items, bagged them , took my money and never said a word during the entire transaction. In another store i was trying to make small talk and cheer the checkout girl up and she completely ignored me and said very few words.
I mean do they hate their job that much? FOCUS people! I am so tired of going to a store and wondering the isles and not one of the workers standing around will ask if i need help. In one store we were at the fabric counter in the back of the store and a man cuts in front of the line just to ask the clerk if any one was working in crafts! He had been wondering the isles needing help and finally just had to ask any clerk he could find that was alive and standing.
What has happened to business? Where is the customer relations? How did we let this happen?
Later after our day of shopping was coming to a close i wondered if that is how church can be. When people arrive are there ready with a handshake and a smile? Do we speak to every person? Do they find their way around our campuses? I would hope so!
Guest Services at churches should be a priority! I have heard it said that most people will decide if they like the church enough to come back based on the first 10 minutes upon their arrival. Even before they hear the preaching or Bible Study they want to be welcomed and greeted and valued. That’s the key word here…VALUE! Everyone wants to be valued and retailer need to wake up and figure that out!
This Sunday take a look at your church! Do you have excellent Customer Service? I would hope so and if not figure out how to make it happen. It takes 7 touches for a person to really feel welcomed and valued! A smile, a handshake, a pat on the back, learn their name; those are all touches that make people feel valued and cared for. Yes churches do need customer service! Enjoy!
