Saving Money on Fixed Costs

saving moneyObviously this title captured your interest since we are right in the middle of an economic slump. Churches and businesses everywhere are trimming the fat and finding creative ways to save money in their budgets. I read a lot of blogs and news sites and this is the topic of the day; how to save money! So how do you save money in a church budget? Where do you start? What do you look for in fixed costs? Great question.

First of all, you need a budget that is detailed enough to start tracking expenses. With budget line items broken out instead of lumped together you can easily see what your costs are month to month. Start making some graphs and spreadsheets that help you see what your spending each month and compare month to month and year to year. That will save you money  in the long run.

To start saving today I would have to refer you to an article I wrote and was published in the NACBA Ledger on saving money with fixed costs. There I break it down and show you several things to do to get a handle on costs and examples of how to save. The link below will take you to the article. It is PDF format so once you are there click on the icon to the left to see thumbnails of the article. It starts with page 17.

How have you saved in fixed costs? I would love to here your methods and pass them on to others looking to cut costs.
