This is my first post for the New Year 2010. I really am not good at making New Year Resolutions because I don’t keep them. However, Jan is a great time to start fresh and make changes. My personal change is going to be getting up early every day and start the day better. I am not a morning person at all so this will be a great challenge for me. I have also decided to do some things differently in the office. Here are 5 things I am going to change that you might like as well and can incorporate into your day.
1. Instead of just walking in to the office and getting to work, try to greet each person in your department as you arrive in the office and spend a few minutes catching up. If you’re in a smaller church try and greet everyone in the office. It makes the day go better and adds value to the employee.
2. Try delegating more! If you have not mastered this skill yet, I would highly recommend you read my page on How to be Better Delegator. This allows you to focus on the really big tasks that only you can handle. Don’t get bogged down in small tasks!
3. Don’t work blind and not knowing what is coming up! Preview your day, your week, your month, ahead of time so you will be ready for meetings and deadlines coming up.
4. I realize we have so much technology that we could literally do everything all day without speaking to anyone. That is not good for personal relationships within the office. Get up out of the office and away from the computer more! Use more person to person communication and learn what types of communication people respond to the best.
5. This may be different for you but Smile more! If we are going to spend more time on personal relationships then at least be pleasant about it. Learn to laugh a little each day and enjoy the office. It all starts at the top!
There may be more than 5 that you have but try to limit them to just 5 to help you get started in your changes. Have a great New Year and keep coming back to luija.com!
